DIY Dog Bowl Feeding Station! Tutorial & Video with Dixie Belle Paint & Transfers

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

We gave my Son a puppy for Christmas, and her favorite game is tipping over food and water bowls. I googled all the advice on how to stop a dog from tipping her bowl over, but nothing worked.

I’d almost given up on my quest for the “Untippable Dog Bowl” when my Husband came up with a genius idea. This DIY Dog Feeding Station was once an end table.

How To Make the DIY Dog Feeding Station:

To make the stand, we measured the height of the dog, and cut the legs off the table for the proper height.

Then we got 2 bowls from the pet store and measured the holes to fit.

I lightly sanded to remove some of the loose factory finish, then put a coat of Dixie Belle Slick Stick to make sure this paint was going to be tough enough for her sharp puppy paw nails.

Since I had 2 of these end tables, I want to share how I did the 2 different looks. I will also include a full video tutorial, if you prefer to watch as well as read the steps.

You will see blue text in the product list, those are links to each product so that you can locate the products easily if you are wanting to purchase them.

Alice In Wonderland Dog Feeding Station:

For the Alice In Wonderland Dog Feeding Station, I used a blending technique called the “Olde World Swirl” to achieve the smoky look.

Starting with the darkest colors at the edge, I blended Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint in Caviar, Mason Dixon Gray, Manatee Gray, & Fluff.

Then painted the Harlequin Checker Design around the edges, leaving the legs all Caviar.

I also used Wood U Bend Moldings that I painted to match, adding Dixie Belle Gemstone Mousse in “Diamond” to the center molding to give it a mirror effect.

After waiting 24 hours for the paint to dry, it’s ready for the transfers to be applied. For the design, I used the Alice Transfer” by Dixie Belle Paint.

You can find it here: https://bit.ly/3cwePH9

You can watch how I applied them all in about 30 minutes by clicking here: https://www.facebook.com/357827364344791/videos/946375659436747

How to Apply Dixie Belle Transfers:

  • To apply, peel off the white paper backing and carefully place the transfer where you want the design.

  • Using a transfer tool, rub back and forth over the design.

  • While rubbing, gently lift the transfer, starting at one corner.

  • Rub and lift at the same time to “release” the image.

Once you’ve done that, it is very important to burnish the design by rubbing over it with your fingers.

Burnishing the design will get rid of air bubbles or halos and help it to adhere properly.

Wait 24 hours, then seal with Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat in Satin.

I used 3 coats to make the surface durable enough to stand up to everyday use.

Boho Dog Food Station

For the Boho Dog Food Feeding Station, I used the same “Olde World Swirl” technique with a brown palette for a rich leather look.

Starting with the darker colors around the edges, I blended Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint in Coffee Bean, Chocolate, Putty and Sandbar.

The design was created using the “Boho Soul” Transfers from the Belles and Whistles line by Dixie Belle Paint.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial & find yourself inspired to try something new!
